Animation Collaborations

Football Collaboranimation
with Sabari Venu

My friend Sabari and I wanted to make a collaborative animated piece, but our drawing styles were too different for us to make a consistent product.
So we found a better way to collaborate.

Animating a Mural
with Vishal Srinivas

My friend Vishal and I decided to use an existing mural (painted by our friends Saumya, Karan and Samar) as the canvas for projecting our animation. We animated the scenes on Adobe Photoshop and projected it onto the mural itself. Eagle animation credits to Vikram Menon.

Kerelessness - An Animated Rhyme

The lakes (kere) in Bangalore have always had an interdependent relationship with the people,
proven by a history of negligence and destruction. 'Kerelessness' is a short animated rhyme that
shows a fictional account of the history involving keres and the people of Bangalore, from their
initial coexistence to the former's depletion, ultimately leading to a quest for preservation.
Done as charrette work for my 2nd year in Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

Time and Belonging

Time is an ever flowing and omnipresent concept, although fathomable and calculable only by intelligent sentient beings. The very idea of a thing such as time came from the mind of a living being, and as such, time is comprehensible only with the presence of a consciousness. Consciousness is thought is existence is belonging. A sense of belonging exists when a mind occupies and adjusts to a certain space. In that sense, time is to belonging what thought is to mind. Time without belonging is an inconceivable notion, and belonging can be felt only through time.
Using this idea, the animation I have made is a romanticized personification of the concepts of Time and Belonging. Time is a lady who constantly creates and destroys. Nothing escapes decay, because existence devoid of life is incapable of sustenance. As Time continues to create and destroy, Bellon Ging, a man in modern attire, shows up to support Time and create an ecosystem, only to be stopped by Anna Chronist, the Guardian of Time. Time longs for Bellon Ging, but Anna Chronist deems them incompatible. Time decides to speed up the creation and destruction around her to reach the era that Bellon Ging belongs to. As a result, Anna Chronist disappears and Time and Bellon Ging meet to sustain creation and support existence.

ISABEL

'Isabel' is an adaptation of a part of a short story called 'Monologue of Isabel Watching It Rain in Macondo' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Magic realism, as a genre, addresses events that although closely bound to the constraints of reality can strain plausibility and accommodate phenomena that are otherwise fantastical. In a sense, it is synonymous to hyperbole, although conveyed backwards. While both convey amplified versions of something real, hyperbole approaches it by making the real seem grand while magic realism makes the grand feel real. My animated piece deals with the idea of hyperbole, as a parallel to magic realism, portraying simple feelings or emotions through exaggerated visuals. An added element is the feeling of claustrophobia that I have personally experienced in the Mumbai Floods in 2005.
The objective of this project was to create an animated adaptation of a text through the approach of sound.
